Why do I need to provide EV and PHEV charging stations in my garage?

One reason is to demonstrate to your tenants, visitors, clients and customers that you take their environmental concerns seriously and that you are a leader in encouraging reducing both greenhouse gasses and reliance on foreign oil.

A second reason is that by installing GreenlightAC charging stations you are marketing your building, garage or facility to current and future EV and PHEV owners, as well as to visitors who are environmentally conscious.

Another reason is that if you are undertaking a major renovation or new construction the provision of EV or PHEV recharging stations is one of the most cost-effective Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points you can obtain.

Finally, early adopters of GreenlightAC charging equipment will enjoy the positive publicity associated with being on the leading edge of new sustainable building and transportation practices.

Why can’t I just have my facilities maintenance people install outlets in the garage?

The technology behind safe and widely usable EV/PHEV charging can be somewhat complicated.  At a minimum, the equipment must comply with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1772 connection standard, meet Underwriters Laboratories (UL) safety standards, and meet National Electric Code (NEC) requirements. The cost of meeting all of these technical requirements for any individual building or facility would be very high, with UL testing alone costing tens of thousands of dollars and taking up to four or five months to complete.

If you do spend the time and money necessary to develop EV charging equipment for your customers, tenants, or facility users you will want to make sure they know that using your equipment will be convenient, safe, and consistent with their recharging experiences at home and at other places where they park, so you would want to coordinate with other building owners and operators to come up with a standard user “experience,” as well as signage and instructions.  Alternatively, you could use GreenlightAC’s turnkey package that provides all you need to meet the needs of your customers, tenants and clients who have, or will have, EVs and PHEVs.

How much does it cost?

We have reduced costs by including only those features that consumers currently will accept and feel that we have the most cost-effective product on the market.  Please contact us to discuss your particular needs and requirements.

How easy is it to install?

Installation at your commercial or institutional location is included in the purchase of your ChargeBars.  We have a team of licensed and bonded electricians, always working under the supervision of a master electrician, who will quickly and neatly install the ChargeBars. Moreover, members of our team will deliver and install appropriate signage at your location.

What about maintenance and mechanical failure?

Our product and our brand are important to us.  Maintaining ChargeBars so that they remain clean and mechanically sound is one of our highest priorities as a business.  We charge a nominal annual maintenance fee that includes a monthly visit by one of our GreenlightAC technicians, who will clean the surface and cords, make sure signage and instructions are intact, undertake any necessary repairs, and log your location into our on-line map of “live” ChargeBar locations.

How much electricity does it use?

One 8-hour charge costs about $1.  When in use, the ChargeBar draws about as much electricity as a medium-sized flat-screen TV.

Can I charge a fee for use?

The current model of the ChargeBar does not include a fee capture capability. As greater numbers of EVs and PHEVs begin to draw more significant electric current at various ChargeBar locations, then we expect to include a fee capture model.  When introduced, we would upgrade the current model to the newer fee-capture one for the difference in price between the two models.

What about connecting to the smart grid?

The smart grid will allow electric utility users to, among other things, customize their purchases of electric power based on demand and price profiles.  This technology is several years away from widespread use.  GreenlightAC EV and PHEV charging products are ready to go now.

We have a fleet of EVs or PHEVs, can we use your product?

Depending on the configuration of your fleet’s garage, we can work with you to customize a fleet charging infrastructure.
